Cats vs. Christmas tree?

ok, christmas is around the corner and up goes the tree.. last year was a desaster, i know i redecorated my tree at least 8 times and picked it up twice from where they played in it and knocked it over, before it was time to open the presents.. my problem last christmas was keeping my cats from making a bed in the branches , pulling lights off, knocking it over, batting ornaments all over the house, eating the paper and tape(they love tape).. i can feel my stess level going up just knowing what i am in store for this year. what can i do to keep them away from the tree. They are another year older, and still rowdy and like water, so the water bottle was a fun joke to them.
