My girl friend need money on regular basis! why?

we were lovers since 5 years and 6 months back we broke up... she says her parents wont accept our love and stuff.. i completly understand that... i told i will convince her parents but she says no.. by this i came to a conclusion that she either not interested in me or she is toooo scared.. but here goes the twist. now she again started talking to me over the phone... we live in different cities. she say lets be friends nd not lovers anymore for which i accepted.. but she started asking me money... i gave handsome money for her birthday... when she needs money she compromises on all the stuff ... she is asking me money regularly ... she is a college going girl... how can a girl who throwed her bf into **** asking him to be friend and asking for money..... i really am scared to think whats in her mind..... now my feelings is she is just using for money... I am positive person and strong hearted guy.. but my feeling is how to avoid her without even knwing to her knowledge.. i want her to realise the mistake she is doing.. ... she thrown me out of her life but she needs money... imp point people she is not poor ... just she is from an orthodox family... looks innocent with pretty looks .. whery shy kind of girl ... but doing all this to me. without knwing the world... what should i do.. please suggest me something..
