Whats the difference between artificial insemination and invitro fertilization?

i was watching an episode of one of my favorite shows, jon and kate plus 8. and the question was asked what method of fertilization did they use to conceive. there is no question that they used fertility treatments and kate's answer was "intrauterine" something or another as opposed to whatever the other option the email stated. im still confused though. what is the difference between intrauterine, invitro fertilization, and artificial insemination? are these children biologically both parents such as in jon and kate's case, ive heard rumors that the kids are not biologically hers. also when using a surrogate, is it true that the woman who carries the baby has no biological connection to the baby? she is just the carrier of the baby?
