Everyone's opinion please! What does this mean when a guy is told you like them, and they say so!?

so someone i trust, told a guy in grade 11 if he knew me, he said yeah, then she said that i liked him, and he said so shrugged his sholders, and made a bad face what does this mean? THIS GUY IS SHY by the way. he gave me signs that he liked me, like long eye contact since september, always sitting by me on the bus, when i turn around i catch him looking at me, and he seems to be chatty with his friends when he is near me. we never talked before becasue we are both shy, so should i talk to him about this, or have him approach me to?
