Re: Who's up with their vfl history?

you said Melbourne was the first club formed in 1859, you are wrong, Geelong (then known as Corio) was formed in 1858. The game began on the goldfield of Ballarat and Bendigo around 1853 when miners started kicking rugby around the mullock heaps and started to develop new rules. Tom Wills started to work on formalising rules around 1856 and clubs were playing in the Geelong area from this time (hence the Mangrook ociation). Clubs from 1856 included Corio Bay, Barwon and Moorabool etc (the last two still in existence). Geelong was formed from three of the six clubs in the area. Geelong is the oldest club. When they started there was 25-30 people a side and two halves of 50 minutes each! Am I right?
