Should I use birth control?

Im a teenager and I've been dating my boyfriend for over a year and a half and we're ually active. We don't use protection and we use the pull out method. I know the pull out method isn't the least bit safe and we have had accidents where he didn't pull out. My mother is against the pill because she believes in the side effects and that it inhibits you from having children in the future. I went to planned parenthood with a friend today and out of curiosity I made an appointment to educate myself more. The doctor told me I don't need parent permission for birth control and that they could sell it to me today. My friend ended up buying it for me because she thinks I truly need it. I have the pill but I haven't taken it yet. I feel like I'm going against my parents and betraying them however I don't want to get pregnant. How safe is the pill really? and what would you do in my place? I told my mom my friend got the pill for periods I didn't tell her I got it too but she flipped when she heard my friend did so you can only imagine if she knew about me.
